What is Substance Abuse? Many people operate under the erroneous assumption that people who are addicted to drugs simply lack the willpower to stop. However, addiction is a complex disease and quitting requires more than a strong will or good intentions. Substance abuse does, over time and with repeated use, actually change the ways in which the brain works. Addiction is a chronic, sometimes relapsing disease that leads to compulsive drug seeking and abuse despite the harmful consequences to the person and those around him or her. While the initial choice to use drugs is voluntary, the changes in the brain from repeated use challenge a person's self-control and changes his or her ability to resist intense cravings to use drugs. Symptoms that a loved one or family member may be addicted to drugs can include: neglecting personal responsibilities at work, home, or school due to drug use, unexplained changes in personality or attitude, sudden need for money, extreme mood swings, strained interpersonal relationships, changes in eating or sleeping patterns, an possibly unusual smells on the body, breath, or clothing. Program Philosophy Park Royal Hospital strives to be a leading behavioral health center that provides a wide range of services to those in need. We proudly provide life-changing care to adults and seniors who are having a difficult time coping with the challenges of life. The staff at Park Royal instills the hopefulness that life will get better; that each person who comes to us will learn the skills to live a sober life. At Park Royal we also believe that in order to truly overcome addiction problems that the whole individual, not just the symptoms, must be treated. We work hard to take the time to get to know each person who comes to us and perform thorough assessments in order to identify and treat all the needs of our clients - mind, body, and spirit. Treatment Approaches at Park Royal Hospital Much like other chronic, relapsing diseases like asthma or diabetes, substance abuse can be managed through a variety of therapeutic interventions. Research into addiction shows that combining addiction treatment medications with behavioral therapies and self-care practices is the best way to begin the journey toward recovery and maintain sobriety. At Park Royal Hospital, we use an interdisciplinary team approach to substance abuse treatment who work together to provide each client with individualized care. Through our comprehensive evaluation process, we will assess each client for the presence of co-occurring mental health disorders and begin treatment immediately. During the initial assessment process, we will evaluate each client to determine the drugs he or she has in his or her system and assess the need for detoxification. We offer a fully-monitored detoxification program to help those physically dependent upon drugs go through withdrawal in a safe, humane manner. Following detox, the process of eliminating the body's physical dependence upon drugs, clients then enter the rehabilitation program to address the psychological dependence upon drugs. Using a variety of therapeutic approaches, including individual, family, and group therapy, our clients learn the skills needed to lead a life free from drugs.

Great place to get better if you stick to the treatment.

Look you have to understand this is a Baker Act receiving hospital and with that you're not going to have the same experience you would at a non Baker Act facility. Yes they do exist in southwest Florida, although very few and far between. Anyway I too had a God awful experience the first time I went there, I signed myself out almost immediately. I'll just say it, Dr Mazzorana should have his license pulled and is the most pretentious jerk which may have something to do with the fact he couldn't get into medical school in this country and had to go to a remote Caribbean island to do so. However, the second time I went, only because the non Baker Act hospital in Naples had filled all their 12 beds. I demanded a new doc and got Dr. Diaz, a fantastic Dr. Then a went to their outpatient program which is outstanding, a different world than "upstairs". Not the mention the most caring and wonderful psychiatrist Dr. Rieche. Park Royal is what it is, a short term crisis and medication stabilization unit, no more no less. The Baker Act itself should get zero stars for how much it is abused. There is nothing like it in Illinois.

Recently spent 6 days at Park Royal! Everyone was nice and helpful, but one tech really stood out! Gaby made things make sense in the upbeat cheerful way she presented things! I think she will make a difference in many people's lives, the way she did in mine. Thank you Gaby!!

If you are truly comitted it works. I'm still here and everyone is very concerned about my well being. Erica R. Was my therapist and I and my first breakthrough was with her. It was frightening but with her and the other staff I got through. I would tell anyone who just needs to examine their life more should be here. We all need help and this was nothing like what was on tv. We all need help at some point. This is where it starts.

Reviewing a Hospital AFTER you placed your son in the facility was indeed frightening for me. OMG. BUT, my son's experience was NOTHING LIKE THAT. People go into hospitals who are: Baker Act, Court Ordered, or Voluntarily. My son's experience was NOTHING short of a CARING LOVING STAFF, a Doctor who probably saved his life, and meds, that are working. But, he went in voluntarily. Perhaps your ASSESSMENT was not fair or just.... Think of the OTHER alternatives. Patients do not go into any hospital IF THEY ARE WELL. No two patients have the same situation or experience. My family was involved from day one...... Now, we will move forward....With a correct diagnose and good treatment for our son..... The front desk and admitting staff was great.... Thank you Charlotte...... Thank you Lisa Dean for your quick action.
